Alternatives - West Dallas video store with tons of gay adult video rentals and catchy dance music to listen to while you shop. Open 24 hours, seven days a week. Located at 1720 West Mockingbird Lane, a few blocks east of I-35, on the back side of the New Fine Arts. Minimum age: 18.
Newspaper
Dallas Voice and TXT Newsmagazine - The Voice offers gay-related news stories covering the metroplex, as well as state and national gay issues, while TXT Newsmagazine (formerly The Texas Triangle) focuses on Dallas, Austin, Houston, and other parts of the state. Free at Borders, gay-themed stores, and selected other bookstores.

J.R.'s Bar & Grill - Popular bar with balcony that's open-air when it's nice outside and enclosed when it's not. Also has shows or special events some nights. At 3923 Cedar Springs Road; no cover charge. Open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Sun and Monday from noon to 2 a.m. Minimum age: 21. Picked as Best Weekday Hangout in 2008 by Dallas Voice. Smoking prohibited inside, but allowed on outside patio.

The Round-Up - Tho' I'm not a big Country & Western fan, this is a great place to hang out and relax or two-step if you know how, although it can be very crowded. Less attitude here. Karaoke on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday; dance lessons early on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. No cover; mostly late 20s & up. At 3912 Cedar Springs Road. Open Monday-Friday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday from noon to 2 a.m. Minimum age: 21. Picked as Best All-Around Bar by Dallas Voice in 2008. Smoking prohibited inside, but allowed on outside patio.

Station 4 - Formerly the Village Station, it now has additional space for dancing and more! Cover charge, except no cover for those 21+ on: Wednesday (all night), Thursday (9-midnight), Friday (10-10:30 p.m.), Saturday (10-10:30 p.m.), and Sunday (9-11 p.m.). Open Wednesday-Sunday from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Located at 3911 Cedar Springs Road. Minimum age: 18, except 21 on Friday and Saturday. Station 4 was picked as the Best Dance Bar in Dallas in 2008 by Dallas Voice readers. Smoking prohibited inside, but allowed on outside patio.

Tapelenders - Video rental store with wide selection of gay-themed dramas and comedies, plus adult films, too, and general Hollywood releases. Also has selection of gifts. Open 9 a.m.-midnight, 7 days a week. Located at 3926 Cedar Springs Road.
