Alternatives - West Dallas video store with tons of gay adult video rentals and catchy dance music to listen to while you shop. Open 24 hours, seven days a week. Located at 1720 West Mockingbird Lane, a few blocks east of I-35, on the back side of the New Fine Arts. Minimum age for entry: 18.
Hot guy
BJ's NXS! - Terrific bar with hot male dancers after 9 p.m. and tons of roving twink shotboys. At 3215 N. Fitzhugh Avenue (3 blocks west of Central Expy); no cover charge. Open 7 days a week until 2 a.m. Smoking prohibited inside, but allowed on outside patio.

Dallas Voice - The Voice offers gay-related news stories covering the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, as well as state and national gay issues. Free at Borders, gay-themed stores, gay-friendly businesses, and selected other bookstores. Web site updated daily.

J.R.'s Bar & Grill - Popular bar with balcony that's open-air when it's nice outside and enclosed when it's not. Also has shows or special events some nights. At 3923 Cedar Springs Road; no cover charge. Open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Sun and Monday from noon to 2 a.m. Minimum age for entry: 21. Picked as Best Gay Bar in 2011 by Dallas Observer readers and Best Happy Hour in 2011 by the Dallas Voice. Smoking prohibited inside, but allowed on outside patio.

The Round-Up Saloon - Tho' I'm not a big Country & Western fan, this is a great place to hang out and relax or two-step if you know how, although it can be very crowded. Less attitude here. Karaoke on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday; dance lessons early on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. No cover; mostly late 20s & up. At 3912 Cedar Springs Road. Open Monday-Friday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday from noon to 2 a.m. Minimum age for entry: 21. Station 4 (S4) - Formerly the Village Station, it now has additional space for dancing and more! Cover charge, except no cover for those 21+ on: Wednesday (all night), Thursday (9-midnight), Friday (9-11 p.m.), Saturday (10-10:30 p.m.), and Sunday (9-11 p.m.). Open Thursday-Sunday from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. (Alcohol service available until 2 a.m.) Located at 3911 Cedar Springs Road. Minimum age for entry: 18, except 21 on Saturday. The Tin Room - Great bar with lots of male dancers, a cage, and even a shower! At 2514 Hudnall Street (near Maple Avenue at Inwood Road); no cover charge. Open Sunday-Thursday until 2 a.m.; Friday and Saturday until 3 a.m. (Alcohol service available until 2 a.m.) Minimum age for entry: 18. Smoking prohibited inside, but allowed on outside patio.
